Gabriel chewing on one of his favorite toys

After swimming this afternoon, I came home to find Gabriel had just gotten up from a nap and eaten.  He was in a very good mood.  I decided to place him on the recliner and play with him a bit.  Here is a video of him being his cute and adorable self!!  He is starting to chew on everything.

Prayers for a friend

Our friend, Sarah, has been in the hospital for a blood clot in her brain.  She had surgery to take care of it and has been recovering.  She is currently 10 or so weeks pregnant.

We just received a call from her mother that said she may possibly be having a miscarriage and is in the ER.  At this time, they are not sure.  She has a fever and severe cramping.

We are asking for prayers!!  Lots of them!!  She really needs us right now and we want to be there for her.

God, in your mercy and grace, please protect and heal Sarah from any pain.  Protect the baby and send your peace to Sarah and her family.  St. Gianna, watch over this baby and be with him/her through this difficult time.

God's grace

This is something to think about...

God's grace:

There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit.

Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak....

"I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright.

I stopped the lad and asked, "What do you have there, son?"
"Just some old birds," came the reply.
"What are you going to do with them?" I asked.
"Take 'em home and have fun with 'em," he answered. "I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time.."
"But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do then?"
"Oh, I got some cats," said the little boy. "They like birds. I'll take 'em to them."

The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for those birds, son?"
"Huh?? !!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!"
"How much?" the pastor asked again. The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, "$10?"

The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free.

Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story:

One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting.

"Yes, sir, I just caught a world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!"
"What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked.

Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other.  I'm really gonna have fun!"

"And what will you do when you are done with them?" Jesus asked.
"Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly.
"How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked.
"Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you'll take them and they'll just hate you. They'll spit on you, curse you and kill you. You don't want those people!!"

"How much? He asked again.
Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your blood, tears, and your life."

Jesus said, "DONE!" Then He paid the price.

The pastor picked up the cage and walked from the pulpit.

Have you taken a moment out of your day today to thank Jesus for everything you have and everything He did for you?  If not, I really encourage you to do so.  I thank him daily for the gift of Erin and Gabriel and all of my friends and family.

Peace be with all of you and God bless your days!!

And...take a breath--here is what we have been doing

Where have I been? Well, here is what I have been doing for a few weeks....

Buying a house!!! That has been taking up most of my time. I have been riding my bike a lot more--deciding to get involved with triathlons. I fell off my bike a few weeks ago and am almost healed up from that. I have been getting off of work and coming straight home to play with Gabriel for a few hours each day. I went to a crawfish bowl. I gave 3 talks, 3 weekends in a row at St. Clare's with Erin. I cleaned out my car.  I took Gabriel to the bike shop to get mine checked out since I wrecked on it and he was drooling like crazy...of course it could be a result of him pre-teething.  I would like to think it's because he wants to start biking really soon!!  I got an iphone.  I took Erin on a really nice date.  We hung out with our friends for his birthday.  Thinking about starting a business of some sort just to get experience with running one.  I have been cuddling with Erin and kissing all over Gabriel.  Here are a few videos of our lovely son....

Today Gabriel rolled from his back to his front for the first time!!!

We also finally got him laughing on camera.  I think this is my favorite out of any video we have taken!!!  Makes you just want to bite his cheek :)  I know I know, it's an Italian thing.

ISS, Moon, Mars, & Beyond

What many people don't know about NASA....how much it really costs.

Also, I truly believe what this man is saying in response to the question.  It is a very short video.  I encourage you to watch it--it is very interesting.

Mayonnaise Jar

My mother sent this to me and I thought it was worth posting on the blog.  I really like the message it gives....

A professor stood before his philosophy
class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty
mayonnaise jar and start to fill it with
golf
balls
.

He then asked the students if the jar was
full.They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of
pebbles and poured it into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box
of
sand and poured it into the jar. Of course,
the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced
two cups of coffee from
under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The
golf balls are the important things - God, Family,
Children,
Health, Friends, and favorite passions.Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The
pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The
sand is everything else -- The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued,
'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,You will never have room for the things that are
Important to you.

So...

Pay
attention
to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the dripping tap.

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad You asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.

Topeka, Google, potato, potatoe--it's all the same

Erin and I have been very busy lately, which is why I have not written much on the blog.  However, this deserved a couple of sentences....

So I did not have time to dig into this and won't really, but wow....

Topeka, Kansas = Google, Kansas now and  Google = Topeka

Confused--check out Google today.  Anyway, thought that was interesting when I had to look something up earlier.

Have a backwards day today!!
